This has been a pivotal year in the development of this agency’s US Waiting Child Loan Fund. This year $ 4,673.29 was raised to add to the capitalization pool for loans which increased the available funds to $ 21,679.64. For the second consecutive year the fund received a $3,000 gift from the Jenkins, Byers and Roller Families Foundation and benefited from the remarkable efforts of Kayta Lyzhina, who has now raised $ 4,000 for this fund in 18 months. Additionally, her selection as recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year Award By KATV resulted in a gift of $500 to the Fund. These significant strides enabled the agency to begin preparations for making the first loan. In September the US Waiting Child Loan Fund Steering Committee began to pull together the study and research, which had been completed and prepared the operational guidelines, which were approved by the agency Board of Directors at its October meeting. Consequently the Steering Committee approved the first US Waiting Child loan in December to a North Central Arkansas, which enabled them to adopt a special needs child (a four-month old infant) from foster care in another state. In spite of the strides, which were made in the development of this program, there is much more which needs to be done. Two critical objectives need to be accomplished and completed simultaneously: first the balance of the target goal of $60,000 needs to be raised to fully capitalize the program. The second task we have is to make those potential adoptive families all across Arkansas aware of the tremendous need for families and the availability of the US Waiting Child Loan Fund. |
